Thank you to Tassos for taking me on this incredible Greek food tour of Athens! ►Subscribe - 🤍 ►T-shirts - 🤍 Athens is a city that I’ve wanted to visit ever since learning so much about it during one of my Western Civilizations classes in High School. Finally, I had a chance to visit, not only for the amazing history, but mainly for the amazing Greek food! In this video, I’m taking you on a one day, all out Greek food tour of Athens along with Tassos. We ate a combination of classic Greek street food snacks, and a few restaurants, including for dinner some of the best lamb chops I’ve ever had. Here are all the restaurants and places included in this Greek food tour of Athens: Dexameni Cafe - Our first stop was to drink Greek coffee in this small public square. A great environment, and the coffee was excellent. Price - 1.80 EUR per cup Kostarelos Deli - Tassos knows his Greek cheese and he says Kostarelos Deli has some of the best cheese in Athens. Total price - 14.60 EUR Mam - Mam is often considered the best Greek cheese pie in Athens, and it’s a perfect street food kind of place. Most people take-away, but they have a standing table as well. The classic Greek cheese pie was my favorite. Total price - 4.80 EUR Varvakios Market - This is the Athens central market for meat and seafood. It’s a beautiful market and any lover would enjoy walking around this amazing market. Miran - Pastourma and Soutzouki - This is a really cool little deli in Athens where you can buy for takeaway or order whatever you see and sit at one of the tables to snack. They are known for their camel pastirma, and it was the best thing we tried - absolutely excellent. Total price - 4.62 EUR Bougatsopoleio Thessaloniki - Bougatsa is a famous Greek food pastry. We tried a couple versions, but the best for me was the minced meat filled bougatsa. Total price - 15.50 EUR Kostas Soulvaki - Souvlaki, also known as kalamaki is perhaps the best known of all Greek street food or Greek fast food, and Kostas is considered to be one of the best places to eat it in Athens. They grill pork, stuff it into Greek pita, top it with tomatoes, onions, and tomato sauce, and wrap it into a handheld treat. Amazing. Price - 2.20 EUR per piece Taverna To Trigono - For dinner, Tassos wanted to take us to one of his favorite restaurants in Athens, a little outside of the city in a place called Kalyvia Thorikou. This is a countryside meat paradise, and they served us some of the best lamb chops I’ve ever had in my life. An amazing meal to end an incredible day of Greek food in Athens. Lamb chops Total price for everything - 99 EUR Thank you for watching this Greek food tour of Athens! Chicken Souvlaki is a traditional Greek dish that consists of marinated chicken skewers that are grilled and served with a variety of toppings and sides. The dish is a popular street food in Greece and can be found in most taverns and restaurants. The chicken is typically marinated in a mixture of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and a variety of herbs and spices such as oregano, thyme, and paprika. This marinade adds flavor to the chicken and helps to tenderize it while keeping it moist while it cooks. The skewers are then grilled until the chicken is golden brown and fully cooked. When the chicken is cooked, it is typically served with a variety of toppings and sides. Some popular options include tzatziki, a Greek yogurt and cucumber dip, and a simple Greek salad made with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and feta cheese. The souvlaki can also be served in a wrap with lettuce, tomato, onion, and tzatziki, this version is also known as Gyro. One of the great things about chicken souvlaki is its versatility. It can be served as an appetizer or a main course, and it can be eaten on its own or as a wrap. It's also a great option for a summer barbecue or a weeknight dinner. And the best part is that it is a healthy and delicious dish that is sure to please everyone. In Greece, Chicken Souvlaki is a staple street food and a popular takeaway, it is usually served with a side of pita bread, tomato, onion, and tzatziki sauce, you can also add some fries inside the pita, this version is called "Souvlaki with fries". Overall, Greek Chicken Souvlaki is a delicious and easy dish that is perfect for any occasion. Greek Souvlaki is one of the most popular and famous Greek Street Foods in the World, which we would like to introduce to you today in this “Street Food in Berlin” Episode. The Greek souvlaki consists of Pork marinated in Salt, Pepper and Lemon Juice or Vinegar, which, after marinating, is threaded onto Wooden Skewers and grilled. Souvláki is a typical Greek Snack and Fast Food Dish and is usually eaten directly on a Wooden Skewer in Greece, with a little Lemon Juice, Salt, Oregano, some Pita Bread and Tzatziki. Vinegar In Greece, souvláki can be marinated with either lemon juice or vinegar. This delicious chicken souvlaki recipe is lemon and herb marinated kebabs that are grilled to perfection and served up with tzatziki. Souvlaki is a classical Greek dish and is marinated and grilled meat kebabs that are often served on the skewer, on pita bread, and always with tzatziki. Souvlaki translates to the word, “skewer.” Traditionally the meat would feature pork or lamb, but in the last century or so, chicken and beef have become popularized. If you do some research on souvlaki, you’ll find that there are some nuances between the main seasonings and marinade. Ingredients for this recipe: • 3 pounds of 1” cubed boneless skinless chicken breasts • ½ peeled and julienne large red onion • 3 mashed garlic cloves • Juice of 1 large lemon • ¼ cup red wine vinegar • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil • 1 ½ teaspoons dry oregano • 1 teaspoon dry rosemary or thyme • 1 teaspoon each paprika and cumin (optional) • 1 tablespoon sea salt • ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper Serves 6 Prep Time: 10 minutes Marinate time: 12 hours Cook Time: 10 minutes Procedures: 1. Add the chicken to a large bowl along with the onions, cloves, lemon juice, vinegar, olive oil, oregano, rosemary, optional ingredients, salt, and pepper, and mix thoroughly until completely combined. 2. Cover in plastic and keep in the refrigerator overnight or for up to 24 hours. 3. Preheat the grill to high heat, between 450° and 550° F. 4. Skewer the chicken meat between 8 10” skewers or until all of the meat has been skewered. 5. Place the souvlaki directly onto the hot grill about ½” to 1” apart from each other and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side or until browned and cooked throughout. 6. Serve with lemon, tzatziki, and pita. Chef Notes: Make-Ahead: This is meant to be eaten as soon as it is done grilling. You can keep warm on a cookie sheet tray lined with parchment or wrapped in foil and keep in the oven on low heat for up to 30 minutes before serving. How to Reheat: Place the desired amount of souvlaki directly onto a hot grill on high heat and cook for 2-3 minutes or until hot. Alternatively, you can place the souvlaki skewers on a cookie sheet tray lined with parchment paper and heat them in the oven at 375° for 5-7 minutes or until warmed. You can also remove the chicken from the skewer and heat it in the microwave until hot. How to Store: Cover and keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Remove the meat from the skewer, cover, and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator for 1 day before reheating. You may also use de-boned chicken thigh or drum meat. Feel free to cook on the skewers under the broiler in the oven.

And the ideal match for your traditional Greek Chicken souvlaki with pita is of course nothing else than a cooling garlicky Tzaziki sauce (see here: 🤍 Chicken souvlaki is one of the most popular street foods in Greece and for good reason. It tastes like heaven! Souvlaki stands for “meat-on-a-skewer”, however the majority of Greeks and especially those from Athens call any type of pita wrapped meat a souvlaki, specifying the type of meat and method of roasting separately. For example Souvlaki with chicken gyros or Souvlaki with pork skewers etc. The most important step in making the perfect traditional Greek chicken souvlaki is nothing else but the marinade! For this traditional chicken souvlaki recipe, the chicken is first marinated to soak up all the wonderful Mediterranean flavours and then grilled to high temperature, to get all crunchy, nicely coloured and juicy. Select some good quality chicken breasts and season with a selection of Greek spices like oregano, coat with extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice and flavour with garlic. Marinading your chicken souvlaki in the fridge for at least half an hour will allow the aromas to infuse the souvlaki and give it the desired flavours. Enjoy! 🍴 NOSTIMO GREEK KITCHEN: 🤍 🧳 DAD: 🤍 🎥 WATCH: Top 10 Places to Visit in Greece: 🤍 There was no way I could bring you guys an epic Miami Street Food series without taking you to one of the best spots for Greek street food in Miami! Come along with me and my father to the Wynwood area to have some fire Greek food! We arrived at Nostimo Greek Kitchen, which offers so many favorites that you can eat on the streets of Greece! They have gyros, souvlaki, falafel, hummus, tzatziki, and much more! I met up with Yanni from Nostimo Greek Kitchen and followed him inside. The restaurant’s interior is very colorful, with lots of white and blue, the colors of the Greek flag and the main two colors of Greece! There’s a mural of Santorini that also features Pegasus, the winged horse, and Poseidon with his trident. In the kitchen, Yanni started cooking up some Greek favorites! He started by oiling and grilling some Greek pita bread, which is thicker than regular pita bread. It’s chewier and makes for a better gyro. He sliced the meat off the spit and then fried some fries to add inside! Then, he started on the souvlaki, which included pork, chicken, and bacon-wrapped chicken varieties. They’re very similar to pinchos or kebabs. To the fries, Yanni added paprika, browned oregano, salt, garlic powder, and oregano. He put the souvlaki on the grill and basted them with a lemon dipped in a sauce made from olive oil, water, salt, oregano, garlic, and other spices. Next, he built the gyro by taking the grilled pita and adding tzatziki, tomatoes, onions, parsley, meat, fries, and lemon vinaigrette. You have to eat a gyro when you go to Athens! Then, he made a second gyro, as well as an authentic salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, kalamata olives, green bell peppers, parsley, lemon vinaigrette, extra virgin olive oil, oregano, and salt. Then, he made Greek fries and added in some pita with tzatziki and hummus. The Greek fries contained chicken, feta, greco de gallo, and tzatziki. He plated the souvlaki on a bed of fries with pita bread on the side, fresh parsley, lemon wedges, and tzatziki. For dessert, we’d have baklava with Nutella and powdered sugar on top! We started with the salad, which had a nice block of feta cheese on it. It was so refreshing and I loved the crumbly cheese! The onions and kalamata olives were amazing as well. The onions had an amazing crunch! Then, we moved on to the pita with tzatziki and hummus. The tzatziki was really amazing. It’s like Greek ketchup—they put it on everything! I also loved the hummus. Everything was super fresh and very tasty. Next, we had the gyro, which had both lamb and beef on it. It was so delicious and filling, with a nice crunch. I loved the contrast of the bread, tzatziki, the crunchy onions, and crispy fries. I loved it with the spicy sauce! Then, we tried the souvlaki! First was the bacon-wrapped chicken, which was rich, fatty, and bursting with flavor. The pork souvlaki with the spicy sauce and the tzatziki was fantastic, and great with the pita as well. Then, we jumped on the Greek fries! They were loaded with toppings. They’re like Greek nachos! The flavors are unreal. The chicken, fries, Greco de gallo, tzatziki, parsley, and tomatoes together we so mouthwateringly good! It was another full meal! Finally, we ended with the Nutella baklava, which was full of walnuts and lots of layers of dough. It was the most walnuts I’ve ever had in baklava! They were fantastic with the Nutella and dough! My favorite baklava of all time! Where have you been?
